ours

There is a sign that hangs in Deacon’s room. It reads because your mine. There are two reasons behind that quote on his wall. The first is that it’s a line from Johnny Cash’s song “Walk the Line.” Many of you know that when we first told the girls they were going to be big sisters, Sophie named the baby ‘Johnny Cash’, and the name just stuck. The second reason is that quote embodies the way I feel about Deacon. The way we all feel about Deacon. Because he is ours.
From the moment that chubby cheeked, red headed baby entered the world, he has done nothing but make us fall more in love with him. He is happy, friendly, pleasant & hilarious. His smile lights up the room & his giggle is contagious. Obviously I realize that most people feel this way about their babies, but well, he’s ours and that makes it all the more. Tomorrow, we will celebrate and thank the Lord above for him and for the joy he has brought to us this year. Our family is better because of his little soul. I pray that we can nurture everything that he is . . . happy, feisty, funny & open. I hope he has his Daddy’s integrity & height and that he’ll always give me kisses on my cheek the way he does now. I hope he always knows how thankful we are that he is a part of our family and that he will always be ours.
