The Word became flesh
Light shined through the darkness
Hope rattled through earthen cages
Grace descended like a dove
The Word became flesh
Strangers became children
Vagabonds became prophets
The poor were blessed
The Word became flesh
Wisdom put skin on
Evil crushed under a baby’s heel
Salvation heard in a baby’s cry
The Word became flesh
A screaming whisper
A silenced cymbal
A rose with a crown of thorns
The Word became flesh
Tyranny gave way to truth
Progress nauseated by perfection
Demons shuddered
The Word became flesh
The world called him Jesus
Jesus called the world His
The Word calls to us all
This a poem that my husband wrote a couple of weeks ago for Christmas. The passage from John chapter 1, is one of my favorites in the Christmas season. {It's actually the verse that my girls are memorizing this week} While driving home from dinner tonight, Brock & I were talking about one of my favorite lines in the poem: Vagabonds became prophets.
I love this line because it reminds me of the multi-faceted way that Christ birth changed the world. The moment Jesus was born the voices of thousands of prophets and martyrs were validated. We talked about how for hundreds of years people had thought of these men as lunatics. They were crazy, religious extremist who talked about things to come . . . . but nothing ever came. For years. Hundreds of years.
Then one night, in a small town, a teenage girl gave birth and in that moment . . . . Validation. All their dreams. Their writings. Their countless moments when {I'm sure} they second guessed everything they had ever said were fulfilled.
Critics are silenced.
The Word had became flesh and He was about to change the world. Forever.
Then Brock said something that took my breath . . . .
" That's exactly what it will be like when He comes again."
This Christmas season rest in the fact that the Word did become flesh. He made His dwelling among us. He has validated everything the Prophets of old told us about. And one day, He will come back and our message will be . . . validated.
