march madness . . .

Okay, so I realize that the entry title is a little cliche', but if you knew the month we've had you'd understand it's very fitting!

The month began with Brock's spring break, which was a nice little break from school for him. Life is much less crazy when you take school out of the equation.

The 9th brought a dark cloud over our house. That afternoon, Ella started running a high fever. Monday morning, I woke with a high fever followed by Sophie & Brock getting fevers on Tuesday. After spending Wednesday morning at the pediatrician & our doctor, Sophie & Ella were diagnosed with strep while Brock & I tested positive for the flu. Wednesday afternoon, YaYa headed to our house to save the day! It was a stressful & exhausting time at our home. Trying to get well while tending to sick kids is not easy. Plus the added stress of wondering if Deacon would come down with any of it. Luckily, YaYa was able to come for several days and that was a HUGE help!
The following week Deacon did get a double ear infection, but that was not caused by our illnesses, it just means that if he is getting them this young, he will probably be more apt to get them throughout his childhood! Yuck!

Our Easter was laid back this year. We did our annual trip to Buffalo Wild Wings with Morgan & T.J. then back to the house for naps & some back yard egg hunting. Brock & I did partake in an egg toss with each other, although the verdict is still out on who actually won ??!!

The end of the month took us to our favorite place, Tennessee! We headed to Knoxville to help my Dad celebrate his 50th birthday! We surprised him with a dinner at Macaroni Grill (his favorite), joined by some of his closest friends. He was completely surprised and the night was wonderful as we caught up with old friends.
Luckily, Brock's brother and his family were in the same weekend, so we were able to get all the Tharpe's together for the first time in over a year! We got to catch up with Jonah, meet our new nephew, Eli and enjoyed introducing everyone to our little Deacon.

Sophie & Ella have improved tremendously at school. This past week was especially good. Both Tuesday & Thursday I was able to drop them off with no tears! A big step for us! Their teacher, Ms. Agnes, got them a special book about twins that she reads to them after I leave and then they are good to go. We are extremely relived that they have came through that. They are still a little hesitant at church, but we're working on it. Their latest interest are dinosaurs & navigation. We've got puzzles, books, coloring books & plastic dinosaurs everywhere and they love learning all about them. They are also so intrigued by directions. Anytime we go anywhere they want to know whether we're going right or left, what are the names of all the roads to get to our destinations and what town it is in. While it can get a bit annoying, we love educating them about this. The other day Brock asked me where something was and Ella responded "It's on College Road, Dad."-- I guess all the questions/answers are paying off.

Deacon is growing like a weed! At nine weeks, he is at 12 lbs.! He is smiling, quietly laughing & continuing to steal our hearts. The girls are very protective of him and constantly watch if anyone other than Brock or myself is holding him. He LOVES the bath tub and enjoys showing off for us as he kicks & splashes. He is sleeping well at night and is patiently trying to get on a schedule during our busy days. He's a sweetheart and we are so glad to have him.

That's it from here . . .
We hope next month is warmer and free of illness. . .

until then . . .
